The Kooks

Today we have one of our favorite Brit bands for you, The Kooks!

While they are usually known as "Indie Alt and Pop", their genre has often been pegged as wanna be Arctic Monkeys.  Whilst listening to The Kooks you can always expect to hear some exciting melodies made by lead singer and founder of the band, Luke Pritchard.  He makes skilled use of his high range by sounding unexpected harmonies with his lead guitarist, Hugh Harris, who also sings backup vocals.  The Kooks have tried lots of different styles of music so it's hard to really give any of the members a real "trademark", but in my opinion, Hugh tends take his songs in a simplistic, and often light direction.

As far as influences, the Kooks say that they pull a lot out from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Buddy Holly, and the Everly Brothers, among others.  That being said, lots of controversy has arisen about their musical style; The Kooks have been accused many times of trying to imitate other bands, including: The Arctic Monkeys (as mentioned above), Razorlight, and most recently the Fratellis'.  The feud between bands peaked when it was reported that the Arctic Monkeys lead singer Alex Turner was trying to mess with the leads to Pritchard's guitar.  This ended up with Turner getting his face punted 300 style by Pritchard.  Later, The Kooks tried to make peace, but the relationship between the two is still at a standstill.

Great band that you will fall for as soon as you listen to "She Moves In Her Own Way"
