Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

The song "Home" is perhaps the greatest of all well known indie folk recordings.  I say this not only because of how great the song is, but also because of the caliber of the entire band.  Everyone is an incredible musician with a vast knowledge of their specific instruments; whether it be trumpet, accordion, or guitar. Each has a distinct style that melds together in a beautiful way to make the perfect sound.  Another trait that makes them special is the sheer size of the band. They have 10 permanent members, and eight others that will come and play along from time to time.  Just the fact that they can even have ten diverse instruments and still maintain a sound that isn't muddy is a testimony to how well they work with one another. When you watch interviews or live recordings, you can see the love pouring off every member as they put everything they have into just that one song, completely in the moment.
Singers Alex Ebert and Jade Castrinos make for a truly unique contrast in style, on one hand you have Alex with his soothing monotone lyrics, then Jade with a powerhouse voice that sends shivers down your spine every time you hear it.  Another vocal tool that makes this track stand out is the use of whistling; the intro to the song uses this element to introduce an old Sourthern feeling. After that a multitude of colours are painted with thundering bass lines, blaring trumpet solos, and above all a powerful message.
