Avril 14th - Terravita Drumstep Remix

You see those studs in the picture? That's Terravita and they want one thing. To destroy your ears and possibly all that you love. They're one step closer too, with a brand new remix of 'Avril 14th' by the infamous and disturbing mastermind Aphex Twin. The music video for 'Come To Daddy' still haunts my nightmares. Anyhow, Terravita gave this the full bass treatment, it's a killer drumstep remix with a seamless intro for any of you who are as obsessed with transitions as me during sets.
The greatest thing about this mindmelting track? It's free, courtesy of Subhuman Records. Definitely give it a listen, amazing work and a gold star example of the sinister basslines and flawless composition that first ignited my romance with Terravita's music. Make sure you check out Terravita on their Facebook for the download link and for more free tracks and of course to find concert dates so you can have your face obliterated in person!

What am I seeing?

Thanks everyone for the great amount love and support you've given us since we've started, we were just able to hit almost 550 views per day, and because of this we have decided to expand even more. Part of this expansion requires us to revert back to our original, old blog, and so if you are confused, that's what you're seeing. However, we do not plan to stay like this for a long period of time; our current plan should let us change back to our newer blog within a week. Sorry for any inconveniences. Enjoy the blog, we have many more posts that you should be expecting soon!

Timber Timbre

Timber Timbre is a band that a friend just go me interested in and I have been cracked out on for a few days. Probably the reason that I love them so much is the music style they play; it's clearly folk, but has some really noticeable blues roots which add an emotional connection to the listener. An interesting effect that's easy to hear by listening to their music is that they use reverb (for those who don't know, its what gives the voices a kind of ghostly after-note). This works because if you listen to their lyrics you will find that they they are so gut-wrenchingly depressing it's hard to listen to. So while I don't recommend listening to them while you are really happy, you should know that the reason they do this is to connect with the listener. Since it's difficult to completely connect with someone listening to the music, Timber Timbre extends the mood through music videos; they are all strange, but use images that make you feel hollow inside, even though you have no idea why you feel that way. The bottom line is sure these guys are good at music, but their real forte is connecting with the audience using both visual and audible elements.

Just to give you a quick synopsis of the band, its three musicians named Simon Trottier, Taylor Kirk, and Mika Posen. Taylor is the only vocalist, and then between the three of them they play a large assortment of instruments, (violin, guitar, lap guitar, bass, etc). They hail from the great white north, (representing us Mounties) and play great music. Go check them out

Height of The Night

Evening/morning/noon (really depends on where you are) I have a special treat for you from one of my absolute favorite artists. His name is 3Lau the monster masher and you may have heard of him elsewhere and I'd hope so. He's the resident house DJ at Fratmusic.com and he's become a bit of a legend after releasing his debut album 'Dance Floor Filth' earlier this year and becoming totally viral in the blogosphere. Rightly so too - his osund is MASSIVE, the first time I heard his album I was totally shocked and filled with that uplifting feeling that only a really good song can give you.
As a veteran of EDM I can tell you for a fact that his 'Dance Floor Filth' album includes the best mashups I've ever heard. Luckily for me, and all of you, he's cooked up a megamix that will make your feet bleed for sure. I've also got a couple of my other favorite songs from 3Lau, be sure to check him out on Facebook, soundcloud, and Fratmusic.com!

Bon Iver

Bon Iver is a band formed in 2007 known for its blending harmonies, falsetto, serene tone, and successful use of autotune in the song "Woods" on their Blood Bank EP. The band consists of Justin Vernon as songwriter/singer (although every member sings), Sean Carey on the drums/piano, Michael Noyce playing guitar, and Matthew McCaughan playing the bass and drums. They released their first album, "For Emma, Forever Ago" which was immediately praised and received Album of the Month awards from several magazines. The quiet music offers wonderful minimalism and verses that flow like poetry.
On "For Emma, Forever Ago" I was struck particularly by "Skinny Love" and "Flume." Although you could hear a break up song from just about anyone, "Skinny Love" stands out by the poetic lyrics. The song is about an unbalanced relationship which is about to collapse and in one line he writes "pour a little salt we were never here," a particularly beautiful metaphor to Vernon trying to save the relationship. "Flume" flows by smoothly and is one of those songs that impacts you less if you interpret it heavily in my opinion.
Bon Iver has had more big releases in 2009 and more recently 2011. Check out Bon Iver because the band is a very important influence in the Indie Folk world. "Flume" and "Skinny Love" are posted below.

RAGERS VOL. ~DOS~

How long has it been since you smashed your head through the trunk of an elm tree, causing it to shatter into a near lifetime supply of toothpicks that you collected and use to this day? Well it's probably been three days for me but that's far too long in the world of EDM. Thusly I present volume the second of RAGERS to get you in that unfamiliar mood of wanting to chomp through a boulder with your bare teeth. The selection this time was careful but together these ragers make a delicious recipe for disaster.
Please note that I'm NOT responsible for the inevitable destruction of your home upon hearing these. Remember, if you like what you hear check out other tracks and albums by Cyberpunkers, Silvijo Zylfi, Chuckie, Hardwell, Mustard Pimp, and R3hab on soundcloud and on their respective Facebook fanpages!
