Recent Mixes

I haven't posted any yet so here are some mixes for you guys to nom for the next decade, all of them are 30~60 minutes long and absolutely killer. I've included the recent 'Sans Pants' mix by Reid Speed which is more upbeat and fast than her last (Cool Story Bro) as well as the 'We Like You Too' mix by Evol Intent in honor of their 10,000th like on facebook. It's a drumstep mix and one of my favorites at the moment. The last mix is Lucky Date's recent 'Who's Lucky' mix, this is volume 3 of the 'Who's Lucky' series - all of which are excellent mixes. I hope you like them all, an hour of music packed into one is perfect for roadtrips or chilling out with friends, and most artists release them for free.

Tommy's Theme

WOW WOW WOW. I've been hearing about this track for days but I only grabbed a copy a couple of hours ago. This brand new banger from the Noisia boys is absolutely lethal. Dubstep as of late has been pretty boring with the same drums and the same predictable bassline for every song and sounds that are nearly indistinguishable. Noisia added in actual instrumentals to accommodate this absurd amount of bass, which is structured in a way that hits you over and over again rather than a stream of mindless wubs. The sounds used are very grimy tones rather than the average womp, I'm talking about eery waves of low sound that really roots itself in your head. 10/10, epic track - a must buy.

Throwback Song-Pack

Well after reaching 1000 electronic songs and being a part of the EDM scene for maybe a little over a year I've really been getting back to my roots and listening to the classics. Here are a quick few of the first electronic songs I listened to that got me into the genre, and I'm sure are more than capable of doing the same for any of you who are not quite that into it yet.

BASSNECTAR AT CHARLOTTE

Wow, last Friday I was lucky enough to visit Bassnectar - a womping legend - in the flesh for his Charlotte concert. Absolute rager I'll tell you now. Shortly there will be added a few of the tracks from his epic set. He began with the openning of 'Basshead' an iconic tune to be sure, and after about 4 minutes of nostalgia and going ballistic he live mixed it into a drumstep redub which was fantastic. His set was littered with songs from the Divergent Spectrum album, a couple of songs that can be found on his new remixtape (i.e. Colorstorm) and even some new bangers from Excisions new album X Rated including that very song and 'Blast' and 'Bounce' from Ajapai's new Energized EP. He was also gracious enough to blast the crowd's eardrums with a handful of throwbacks including 'Timestretch' which carried a good part of the show with it's trance inducing wub, and his flawless remix of 'Lights' by Ellie Ghoulding. He had balloons and tons of glitter and confetti fall from the roof a couple of times when particularly great songs started going and the crowd went wild over and over again. Most insane experience of my life, easily. His openers were DJ Jenna, who I think was a local and wasn't terribly bad, as well as Two Fresh. Two Fresh absolutely killed it, they had a drumset on stage and played live drums with the synths for a really dynamic experience. During the show I crowd-surfed. Twice. I rode on the shoulders of people I didn't know. I raged up front row stage center and nearly lost my face in the process. The whole experience was a blast, I absolutely loved it. Here are a couple of the tracks he dropped at the show as well as one of my favorite Bassnectar remixes.

Ever Wonder...

...what a Pharmacist at The Pharmacy does? He attends many pharmaceutical conferences to allow him to later spread his knowledge to the masses. Well, today, our head Pharmacist decided to take one for the team and go to the Bassnectar LIVE Conference. Poor him.

So, for our locals and the random Russians and Argentinians who visit this blog, in place of regular postings, here is a video to give you a good example as to what actually goes on at these conferences: (We will return to regular posting when he returns.)

Weekend In America

The best place to start is with my personal favorite producer right now - Wolfgang Gartner. His debut album was just released two days ago 'Weekend In America' which has been in the works for over a year. Since it's recent drop the album has gained critical acclaim from countless DJs and producers the world over. His 'maximalist' style, attention to detail, and definitive innovation has made this album easily one of the best electrohouse albums of all time, and in my opinion certainly the best of the year. The album features the three pre-released singles as well as a number of breathtaking tracks that demand your body to dance wildly. His production has really hit its stride. I've included a video of one of his live shows to show his incredible new touring setup, dubbed 'Medusa' which even over the computer is mindblowingly awesome. Everyone should immediately check out his album, and hopefully I'll be able to upload some of the tracks soon.
